· Promote an effective partnership between school and parents.
· Consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy.
· Acknowledge resources for learning of all kinds at home.
· Extending the learning that begins in school.
· Encourage pupils as they get older to develop confidence and self-discipline needed to study on their own and prepare for secondary school.
· Sharing books, magazines, and newspapers, visiting the library.
· Playing cards, dominoes, board games, and memory games.
· Sharing interests and hobbies.
Through working and playing with your child, interest and enthusiasms can be shared.
Years 1 & 2 up to 1 hour/week (reading, spellings, other literacy work and number work).
Years 3 & 4 up to 1.5 hours/week (literacy and numeracy as for years 1 and 2 with occasional assignments in other subjects).
Years 5 & 6 up to 30 minutes/day (regular weekly schedule with continued emphasis on literacy and numeracy but also ranging widely over the curriculum).
